I did mention this in a Twitter entry already, but I will say it again: I’m crazy about Poladroid right now. See, I wasn’t allowed to watch TV when I was a kid. So what do I do now? Watch a lot of TV. And one thing I always wanted to have as a kid was my own Polaroid camera, but my parents kept telling me that I should save my pocket money for something more worthwhile instead of wasting it on these silly expensive cartridges. Which of course means that I have a terrible spending habit now, and can’t even remember what I did with my pocket money back then. As soon as I laid eyes on Polaroid, however, I knew that those childhood deprivations would finally be put to rest. It is an emulator that will add a Polaroid-effect to any of your pictures. And it’s really cute!
After installation, a lovely-looking Polaroid camera will be sitting on your desktop:

Drag one of your pictures onto the application, wait a few seconds, and like a real Polaroid camera it will chuck out the unprocessed photo, accompanied by authentic sound effects. You can then shake the picture, or just wait – a sound effect will let you know when it’s done. And just like the original, you only get ten images out of one cartridge session.
Over the course of two years I have taken many pictures with my mobile phone’s camera but they simply aren’t good enough to be posted anywhere, yet at the same time they hold many fond or not-so-fond memories and therefore are in a way testament to my life. Turns out they look tolerable after running through Poladroid.
I went overboard and uploaded them all to Flickr so my account would get some action. Now I can revert to not uploading anything for a month or two without feeling bad about it. Oh the pressures of “Web 2.0″
No on Prop 8
October 24, 2008
Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.

Yeah, I’m posting this promo after the latest episode of House has aired – which isn’t supposed to be the way that promos work. However, I simply wasn’t aware of its existence before Marion (a silent lurker on this blog :p) told me about it today. Allegedly this scene between Thirteen (played by Olivia Wilde) and quite literally an unnamed female has been cut from the actual episode. I dare say that it was probably never meant for prime time television anyway because even I found the toned-down version that did air a little racy. So here’s the promo. I’m pretty sure that some sort of rating is in order, but I’m never able to figure out how these work. If you’re a kid, just don’t watch it, mmmkay? I’m such a responsible adult, lol.
While I was watching the episode, all I ever could think was “Thirteen’s ‘date’ sorta looks like Katherine Moennig, so they probably picked the actress because the latter wasn’t available.” Then, while doing “research” for this post, I found out that she has in fact appeared in last season’s The L Word as the actress portraying Shane in the movie adaptation of Jenny’s novel Lez Girls. I didn’t think she looked a whole lot like her back then, but seems like she does now. Do you know who else looks like a (younger) Kate Moennig? Kristen Stewart in “Into the Wild”. Just saying.
I certainly won’t be getting my panties in a twist over the implications of Thirteen’s behaviour in this episode. I like Olivia Wilde as an actress, but ask me about Thirteen and I will reply, “She always wears pretty outfits and I feel sorry that she’s got a terminal illness.” And that’s all I could say about her. I blame this lack of empathy on the writers of the show. Not only did they pair off Cameron with Chase (and almost House – I gag just thinking about it), Wilson with Amber (RIP, I never liked ya!), and now they appear to be intent on setting up Foreman (whom I like) with Thirteen. What is this, Grey’s Anatomy where everyone is involved with, well, everyone? So who’s next, Taub and Kuttner?
No actually, there is a pairing I’d like to see. It’s *drumroll* House and Cuddy. I’m not saying it’s got to be love, but these two would be really hot together. And the snarking possibilities in their mutual banter would be endless, considering the way the sparks are flying already. But then, you’ve got to trust the writers to not mess things up – and seeing the way Season 5 has been going so far, I am a little wary.
Sadly, I am not a very political person.* I do appreciate a nice, soft vintage t-shirt though. When a friend sent me a link to this, I was like “Damn, that’s a good shirt. Looks really soft, I could wear it here and nobody would know what it’s about.” In fact, I myself was labouring under the misapprehension that “Hope” is the name of a rehab facility until I read the article. Well, my initial thoughts regarding the shirt still held true, so I started looking for it online. I only managed to find one shop selling it, but they do not offer international shipping and shipping to Canada was $40 already, so thank you but no.
Being the genius that I am , I thought I might give Barack Obama’s website a try to see if they’re selling this particular design there. Well, they aren’t, but a plethora of other things – some of which are really, really well-designed. This one even has a vintage-print. While I was browsing around, this shirt popped up under “new arrivals”. It was designed by Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra, two lovely “bears” from Brooklyn who also happen to be real fashion designers, hence the price tag. My interest piqued even further, I took a gander around the “Runway to Change“-section and discovered some more big names, fashion designers and pop stars alike. My pièce de résistance, however, was this:

I briefly considered ordering this, heck, I even tried to, but according to the FAQs you have to register at the shop first in order to see if they ship to your country – but then ask you to provide your full personal information, and I wasn’t up for that due to my slightly apolitical nature.
*Actually this is not really true, I’m not really apolitical – I am very much interested in national and international politics and have voted at every election that I am eligible for, but do not affiliate myself with any political parties (have even written an exposé on why that is the case) and would like to keep politics out of this blog. Let’s keep things shallow, shall we?
