I tried staying up to watch the Academy Awards last night but the Red Carpet show was such a piece of crap that I decided to record them and go to bed instead. It wasn’t so much the Red Carpet superficiality that I found offensive (as such is to be expected), but the German presenter Steven Gätjen. God, he is ever so annoying. He’s been doing this for what, four years now? Surely his English should have improved at some point. The origins of his phrase structures seemed to puzzle quite a few of the stars he interviewed, and they puzzled me too. Not discernible, as fas as I’m concerned. Same goes for his sense of humour. The interview with wonderfully quick-witted Jason Bateman was cringeworthy from start to finish. He was joking, Steven! And he was funny! Cue: A little laughter might have been in order. But I should cut poor Steven some slack. He’s cutting-edge. According to his website, his favourite show is “Prison Break 2″. Wow. A sequel that has not even been made available to us mere mortals. His favourite sports are even more interesting: “anything involving balls ”. That’s where I should stop before I get myself into trouble, and return to the actual topic of this post:
I loved Steve Carell. The way he presented the best animated feature film literally made me laugh out loud. He should host the entire show. The end.
I had to update WordPress for security reasons. Upon finishing the update, my K2 installation was broken, therefore I updated K2 too. After that, my customized theme was broken. Now I’m using the default theme, which isn’t pretty. There’s another CSS Reboot deadline scheduled for May 1, which I may try to meet. Or maybe I’ll just try to fix my old theme. Plus the tags, since they are all gone! I’m sorry about the way this looks, sometimes technology just plain sucks.
I was reminded of something that I have been meaning to post for a while. You may know this already, but just to make sure: Katie Sketch, former leadsinger of The Organ and model extraordinaire, is in a new band called Mermaids. So far, the only musical evidence of their existence seems to be a video posted on YouTube, which was filmed during their “Eyes on Toronto” appearance at the Gladstone in October of last year.
The YouTube description mentions “ragged folk edges”, I for one think that the overall sound is very folky indeed, which is fine because I have found myself listening to that kind of music a lot lately. I even considered ordering this “Folk Rock and Roll” T-Shirt from Threadless, albeit very briefly because it’s, well, bright orange, and that’s just not my kind of colour. I don’t even like printed shirts all that much, but still, how addictive is Threadless?! $5!
I got this and a couple of other prints from the Organ gig at Cologne’s Gebäude 9 from my friend who is the most amazing photographer. Go check out his stuff! I will be buying picture frames tonight and am very determined to start my yearly routine of spring cleaning and redecorating my place this weekend. It’s not spring yet? Don’t worry, it will be by the time I’m done. I’m quite thorough, and my place is bursting at the seams. A match made in heaven. Or hell, come to think of it!
