Indie Music in Aachen

Indie music parties often have two flaws:

a) Too many hipsters (or hipster scum, as I like to refer to them. And no, not affectionately.)
b) Too much music that hipster scum would listen to. I.e. not the popular songs from an indie album, but the b-side of the white-label that was only released in Indonesia. Or something.

Well, on Friday night I went to a party where neither of the two applied. Check out Aachen’s Popstadl if you’re ever in the area. I still miss the Popkorn parties at the Taty’s Club in Cologne which sadly got cancelled a while ago, but this is better than most if not all of the current indie parties in Cologne. If you like Manchester’s one and only Poptastic, then you’re bound to love their playlists too.

They have a gig at Cologne’s Rose Club on March 31, so even if you can’t make it to Aachen, you still get a chance to check them out.

And I got to re-discover this song – I was so crazy about this band once that I bought a tie-dye (!) t-shirt with a dEUS logo while on a school trip to Leuwaarden. Oh my God, the fashion police is so out to get me! Continue reading ‘Indie Music in Aachen’

Some People Keep Getting Better With Age

Confession time: I have a huge crush on Dr. House. And huge is an understatement. You better not call me on Tuesday nights, because I won’t be picking up the phone. Apart from Grissom, he is my favourite character on TV. Oh scratch that, he is my favourite character on TV – his clothes are so much better than Grissom’s ;) Kudos to Hugh Laurie for his portrayal of such a wonderfully complex character. Speaking of Hugh Laurie, I found these two pictures on the ‘net:

Wow, he got exponentially hotter with age! Either that, or he looks really good in pink ;)
Talking about pink, I wasn’t aware of the masses of House/Wilson shippers on the Internet – that’s amazing! To be honest, I don’t really see it. Same goes for House/Cameron. I do like the chemistry between House and Cuddy (played by the fabulous Lisa Edelstein, who, like the meaning of her surname in German, is a real gem on the show), but I don’t see that being played out, either. For once, I don’t see myself “shipping” any relationships on a show. I just like to watch the characters, and trust the writers – and for me, that is very rare!

Daniela Sea at the Berlinale

So I have been glued to the TV, watching boring and/or pompous Berlinale film festival recaps, but sadly I did not catch a glimpse of Daniela Sea, who is currently there for her film “Itty Bitty Titty Committee”. It sort of kills me to think that she is in Germany right now, promoting a film that I would love to see, while I’m stuck at the opposite end of the country! Ah well, at least the weather is nicer, and the people are friendlier here, haha.

A short Google search later, however, I found “Daniela Sea’s Itty Bitty Titty in Berlin Diary” at Curve Magazine. What’s that, Curve Magazine? Hmm, it does sound familiar… I think it was mentioned once or twice on some TV show a short while ago.

And to answer Curve Magazine’s question, why yes, I do actually know how to say “Titty” in German – it’s exactly the same word. Don’t say you never learn nothing here ;)

So You Wanna Know Me Now

I finally caved in and bought Mint the other day because I’ve gotten slightly addicted to site stats and a couple of people have told me Mint is great. I do think it’s pretty good, but I don’t think it’s that great. I feel like I’ve gotten better info between Google Analytics, FireStats and Blog Patrol. Ok, now I only have to check one place instead of three – but they were free, and more concise as well. I guess I will get used to it eventually!

One thing I did get to learn thanks to Mint is that the amazing Curly mentioned me on her blog – and wow, talk about increase in traffic! I’m sorry, folks – as you will have found out by now, I don’t really have much to offer. This is just my random collection of things I like. Which in return are pretty random. And so is my frequency of posts.

For some reason, I never really started sharing the personal stuff. Continue reading ‘So You Wanna Know Me Now’

Vote!

TLL asks you to vote for the 2006 Lesbian Blog of the Year. The final contestants are all great, but I know whom I will be voting for. She has got one of the most original blogs one could find on “ze Internets”, ham & cheese on wry, and I simply admire her.

So, until February 17:

Vote for Curly McDimple
