Somewhere Over the Rainbow

iPod Shuffle
Damn you, Apple! While I finally got to see Babel at the cinema last night, you had to introduce a whole bunch of colours for the iPod shuffle. Now I will never be able to choose just one!! Orange does look really nice though.

But on a more serious note, why is there no (PRODUCT)RED model among all the new colours? Could it be that Apple is worried that a $10 dollar donation would make too big a dent in their profit margin? Check out this article about the cost of materials inside the shuffle and the nanos. I don’t know how much truth it holds, but it does seem feasible that the shuffle’s insides only amount to about $30, while the actual item sells for $79. In which case I say “Boo!” – and challenge you to release a (PRODUCT)RED shuffle and promise to be the first in line to replace my cranky first gen shuffle, which miraculously has decided to no longer play the songs that I purchased from the iTunes Music Store.

Tag Trouble

I’m sorry for the dozens of people who land here via an image search for Daniela Sea. A while ago, I noticed an inconsistent naming-pattern in my tag database. All proper names were connected by a hyphen. Justin Warfield, for example, is listed with an entry called justin-warfield. For some strange reason, Daniela Sea was listed as both daniela-sea (the correct way) and daniela_sea – which is both incorrect and highly obscure, since I never changed anything in the way I assigned tags to posts. In fact, she remained the only entry with an underscore in my entire database.

So I figured I’d just correct the posts – and assumed that the bots would catch on eventually. Well, let’s just say they didn’t. Entries looking for the tag-archive daniela_sea are the second highest entry page of this website – and they end up on a 404 page, which sucks. I have tried to assign synonyms both via the UTW plugin admin interface and phpMyAdmin – both to no avail. So for now, I can’t really offer a solution. I’m thinking about just adding the daniela_sea tag to all the posts again, but that will look really stupid in the tag cloud. I apologize for any confusion or frustration this may have posted.

Switching Themes

Sorry for the current minimalist look. I thoroughly tested WordPress 2.1, K2 0.9.5 and my mod of the theme on my testserver. On TWO, actually. And it worked on BOTH. So naturally I assumed it would be safe to install everything on this server. Foolish, foolish little me. For some reason, the K2 sidebar keeps dropping to the bottom of the page when you’re viewing this site with Internet Explorer. Which is a known issue with K2, hence the tests and fixes (all of which obviously didn’t quite work). I will have to call it a night and try to resolve it some time tomorrow, or so I hope.

So yeah, that’s the new layout for now. I was a little fed up with all the bright colours and the huge header in my last theme. I’m not all that happy with this theme either, but I’ll hopefully manage to improve it some time soon – after I get it to display properly on IE, LOL.

On top of it all, my site’s host (free, so no complaining here) has been experiencing some technical difficulties for the last couple of days, so there has been a lot of downtime. I decided to shove this in during the five minute-window where I could actually access my page. Looks like things are a bit doomed right now :(

And one last thing: If you find that after upgrading to K2 0.9.5 you suddenly cannot work with sidebar modules any more, you might want to disable the FireStats plugin. With 20 plugins in use, it took me a looooong time to figure that out.

Adrian Grenier and Alex de Large (A Clockwork Orange)

A Golden Globe Awards special. I only know Adrian Grenier from The Devil Wears Prada where I thought he was by far the weakest link in an otherwise brilliant cast. The “I’m so scruffy yet cute and you won’t notice that I can’t act”-look just doesn’t do anything for me. And I noticed. Anyway, this picture made me laugh. What’s with the one eye only-makeup?!

Lest We Forget

The L Word promo on TV.com

I surfed over to TV.com yesterday to see when (and if!) Grissom returns to CSI – because I miss him as much as he says he misses Sara. And he better be sincere, for I sure as hell am! And look! The L Word is back! I can’t believe I almost forget about it. I had a look at some of the TLW fanpages, and I haven’t been there in months, so I shall begin this season spoiler-free – and with very low expectations. Hey, I’m not half as sour as I come across here sometimes. I just want to see people happy from time to time, is that too much to ask for? It looks like they’re bringing in a slew of new characters, so the original ones have someone to hook up with. Based on the previous three seasons, I am guessing that things will look rather swell for a while, only to come crashing down in the second half of the season. But I may be wrong. I hope I am wrong. Come on Ilene Chaiken, surprise me!
