It’s time to get depressed again – just in time for the new year, this heartbreaking trailer for the next episode of “CSI” has surfaced (don’t watch if you don’t want to be spoiled!!!):
Awww, Grissom. You are the cutest thing on TV – and why did you have to look so good in these shots? I will miss you, too

“So how was it?” is a question I have been hearing a lot these last couple of days. And every single time, I don’t quite know what to say because words fail me – and because I can’t remember all that much. That sort of thing can happen when you’ve been waiting to see someone live for more than 14 years. There were so many witticisms and so much banter, yet I only seem to be able to recall the first words he uttered upon entering the stage, “I must warn you, I sing in a foreign language.” Classic! I do know that for a multitude of reasons it was the most emotional gig I have been to, and one that put all the other excellent gigs I have been to this year to shame.

Setlist:
Panic
First Of The Gang To Die
The Youngest Was The Most Loved
You Have Killed Me
Disappointed
Ganglord
I’ll Never Be Anybody’s Hero Now
William, It Was Really Nothing
Irish Blood, English Heart
I Will See You In Far-off Places
Girlfriend In A Coma
Everyday Is Like Sunday
In The Future When All’s Well
I’ve Changed My Plea To Guilty
Let Me Kiss You
The National Front Disco
Dear God, Please Help Me
How Soon Is Now?
I Just Want To See The Boy Happy
Life Is A Pigsty
Don’t Make Fun Of Daddy’s Voice
The live version of “I’ve Changed My Plea To Guilty” was heart-wrenchingly beautiful. So much so that I’m almost glad he didn’t play “I Have Forgiven Jesus”, because I am pretty sure that it would have left me inconsolable – I already had to fight the tears very hard during “How Soon Is Now?” and “Dear God, Please Help Me”.

I had the best birthday this year. In all the years since 1992, i.e. discovering Blur, I made a ritual of playing “Birthday” and basically feeling sorry for myself. Not so this year. Actually, nothing was further from my mind than this song. I had to timestamp this entry because I had to retrieve the “Leisure” album from a huge pile of CDs first, actually. I treated myself to a haircut by Toni&Guy the day before my birthday, then met my friends for drinks and a little clubbing later that night. A friend requested that “SexyBack” by Justin Timberlake be played for me (I actually did have a veto in this but couldn’t think of any other song) and when I thanked the DJ later that night, she remembered the birthday request and congratulated me, which was really nice. I got up after having gotten very little sleep on my actual birthday but thankfully not to go to work. Nope, I went to “Phantasialand”, my favourite German leisure park, with a friend. Entry is free for birthday kids of all ages, something which I was never able to enjoy as a kid, as they used to be closed during winter season. Thanks to their “Winterdream” promotion, they are now open on some days in December and January, one which happened to be December 14. Thanks to this, I got to ride on the “Black Mamba”, which is my favourite rollercoaster. It was a super-enjoyable day, and I didn’t feel sorry for myself for one fraction of a second. A new record! Aditionally, the weather was fantastic and unseasonably warm during most of the day, it only got really cold after dusk. Today, my HDD- and DVD-Recorder arrived, and I’m off to see Morrissey in a couple of hours. I don’t think life could be any better than this. But just for nostalgic reasons, here is “Birthday” by Blur – for a limited time only.

I got three official emails announcing a Christmas song by The Killers, “A Great Big Sled”, in the last couple of days. They all quoted one date – December 5, i.e. TODAY, as the release date for the song over at the iTunes Store. Well, surprise surprise, despite the German newsletter’s promises, the song is not on the German iTunes Store. It is available on the US Store, but alas I can’t buy there. Now I would be happy to wait a couple of days, but this song is for charity, and making it available in some places and not in others makes songs susceptible to downloads, and it really pisses me off when that happens.
I wish one lazy bugger at the German Store would have gotten off his ass and posted the song on time. Apparently, that’s too much to ask for. Just one more pitiful performance over at the German iTunes Store!
