Sorry for the lack of updates, I guess I did get caught up in the World Cup fever after all, and I honestly feel like I’m going to have a heart attack while watching the Portugal vs. Netherlands match. It’s the craziest match I’ve seen in a very long time, and I desperately want to see a Dutch goal, but 90 minutes into the match and with plenty of good chances that were thwarted by bad luck, I don’t know if it’s going to happen after all. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the oranje team!

Congrats to the Mexican team for an excellent second half and a consecutive victory at today’s World Cup match! Since the nation has gone football berserk, I thought I’d state here that I won’t be supporting the German national team. As long as there is still Nazi scum parading and reigning the streets of Eastern Germany, I’d rather be caught dead than displaying a German flag on anything. Apart from Jens Lehmann, whom I adore, I don’t care much for the team anyway, especially “local boy” and dimwit Lukas Podolski and that godawful babyface Philip Lahm. Lame indeed. Oh, and don’t even get me started on that disgusting Schweinsteiger. Oh my god.
Erm, where was I… oh yes, these are the teams that I will be rooting for (in that order):

I sort of procrastinated writing anything about this concert, because I still don’t really know what to say…
My anticipations regarding the show were so high that I felt extremely queasy, in a first date, please don’t let me faint or worse-sort of way. Did I feel disappointed afterwards? Hell no!! Placebo is my favourite band, has been for a long time, and I don’t see that ever changing. There is no other band that affects me as much during a live gig to an extent where I feel emotional and on the verge of tears and then makes me dance – all in a span of 90 minutes. The song that almost did me in this time was “Twenty Years”, I couldn’t even begin to describe the multitude of thoughts that was rushing through my head as the song was being performed. And as corny as this may sound, I started seeing a couple of things more clearly afterwards.
For the major part of the show, my focus was on Stefan Olsdal, though. The guy actually entered the stage bare-chested, wearing only a very fancy bling-bling Eagle-necklet, and looking just great and appearing to be in a rather chirpy mood. He has the moves and the looks, it’s a joy to watch him.
Same goes for Justin Warfield, frontman of support act She Wants Revenge. He is born to be a star – I wish they were selling miniature figurines of him because I’d love to put him into my bookshelf, LOL. Like Stefan, he has some really wicked dance moves, his voice is incredibly insistent, I LOVED his outfit and tattoos, and the overall sound of SWR was smashing. Can’t wait to see them again in late July!
Since photography was not allowed in the venue, I only took a couple of pics and well, they are pretty crappy. As always. See for yourself:

Please do yourself a favour and head over to Homo Eclectic‘s excellent blog and listen to Rufus Wainwright’s appearence on the Pet Shop Boys’ “Live & Exclusive” concert for BBC Radio 2 at the Mermaid Theatre in London on May 8th. He performed “Casanova In Hell” from the PSB’s new “Fundamental” album which is the best pop album I have listened to in a very long time, and for me firmly establishes the Pet Shop Boys on the zenith of pop music. They are brilliant, simple as that. This live version of “Casanova In Hell” has become one of my very favourite tracks by Rufus already and, may I say, sounds like it has been written for him!

Lyrics:
The girl’s perfection
Inspires affection
It’s queer that here he can cast his spell in her direction
Somewhere near one senses fear
Casanova in hell
The girl is naked
The boy is naked
He hides inside a secret chamber
There to gape
Through a velvet drape
And dream of rape
Casanova in hell
Her sharp suggestion
He couldn’t get an erection
Came as a shock
He finds himself a laughing stock
His ageing fate to contemplate
Casanova in hell
Back in the library
His revenge is his story
What he will write will recall the bite
Of his wit and legendary appetite
The sybarite
Casanova is well
For casanova has the last laugh
Creates the myth and vindication
Of his sexual vocation
Makes the definite collection
His lives and lovers and above all
His erection
Will live in history
I was pretty intrigued when I opened the iTunes Music Store today only to be greeted by this:

Naturally, my interest was piqued. An exclusive album? A click merely brought upon disappointment – this is exactly the same album that you can buy on physical CD, and it’s even lacking the hidden track, which happens to be the best song on the album!
But, and I think this is a mix-up, there is also a little something called “She Wants Revenge EP” which features alternative (possibly demo) versions of Red Flags and Long Nights, These Things, Sister and Tear You Apart – and it’s actually really good. A little rawer, a little less electronic, slightly softer vocals – I have been listening to the EP pretty much non-stop for a couple of hours now because I’ve played the album to death, and with the gig coming up next week we just can’t have that.
